Lidl, as part of the Schwarz Group, is one of the leading food retailers in Germany and Europe. Lidl currently operates around 11,550 stores in 31 countries worldwide. In Germany, Lidl operates over 3,250 stores and employs around 100,000 people to deliver its customers with quality products at market-leading prices every day.
As a food retailer, Lidl understands the importance of enabling its customers to maintain a balanced and healthy diet, whilst also keeping the resulting impact on the environment as low as possible.
By taking structural action to support healthy and sustainable diets, or “conscious nutrition”, Lidl is able to have a positive sustainability impact, supporting its overall commitment to do more of what’s “good for our planet, good for people, and good for you – for a better tomorrow”.
The Planetary Health Diet, developed by leading scientists, provides a dietary model that, in the future, aims to enable the global population, of up to 10 billion people, to access a healthy diet within Planetary boundaries. Using this model as a framework and through implementing its “Conscious Nutrition” strategy”, Lidl’s aim is to offer its customers the best range of products for a healthy and sustainable diet by 2025.
To support this commitment and to meet the growing consumer trend towards vegan and flexitarian diets, Lidl has been working hard to develop its vegan and flexitarian product range. The business believes it offers the best vegan range in Germany, with over 650 vegan products in its range and over 100 vegan substitute products within its own-brand vegan “Vemondo” range.
